90210. So what did you think?

The first episode of 90210 aired on Monday, and it has gained mixed reviews from various sources.
But overall I was very impressed by the new re-vamped version of the cult classic. But I didn’t watch it for the fact that it was a remake of the original series, I watched it as a completely new show.
I have seen a few episodes of the original 90210, but I was fairly young, but overall I don’t think the show’s success derives at all from it’s predecessor. The show’s success will depend on its ability to connect with the audience. The purpose of making it a revamped version of the original was obviously a ploy to tap into the adult market who watched the show when they were young, and frankly it was a very clever tactic.
But overall I thoroughly enjoyed the first episode of the series. Main characters Annie and Dixon displayed effectively what it would be like to be thrown into the crazy California life style. And other characters Naomi and Silver dominate the screen with their huge personalities and charisma.
Evidently this show is nothing new, it is of the same mould as every other teen drama. It is very similar to shows like The OC, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill and Veronica Mars. But really it doesn’t have to be anything new. All of the mentioned shows were or still are, some of the most popular shows on television and it’s evidently a strong category.
For the most part this show mainly offers the audience that guilty pleasure they have been waiting for ever since the conclusion of The OC, and I think it may just succeed in doing so.

1 thing that makes me laugh tho are the stereotypes - see how they intentionally make Dixon "speak black?" like hes always using slang, and saying stuff like "dope" lol ... and silver is suppose to be the "cool outsider who doesn't have many friends" its like yeah right, as if, shes hot as!!
