Lost: "Every Man for Himself"

Lost: “Every Man For Himself”

Last night was a great episode. It was the first episode of this season where we saw both the people on the beach and the story of Jack, Kate, and Sawyer. Lets talk about the people on the beach first.

Desmond, man he’s really starting to figure out that he’s got some nifty abilities since that crazy hatch implosion, isn’t he? Desmond goes up and tells Claire that her roof isn’t stable enough and that she should move down the beach for the night and he’ll fix it. Charlie becomes a little too protective saying, he’ll fix it. Desmond concedes and walks away. Desmond then finds that new guy Paolo I think his name is (he’s not really doing it for me. I know they’re trying to introduce other Losties, but this isn’t the way to do it I don’t think.) who is hitting golf balls into the ocean. He borrows the 5 iron from Paolo who gives some kind of tough guy speech about never using a five iron and that Desmond can have it.

Hurley comes out for a nice walk along the beach, Desmond stops him and tells him to wait. Right then it starts raining and we see that Desmond has constructed what looks like a makeshift lighting rod. Not soon after it starts raining does lightning strike the rod. My question is, did Desmond know that lightning was going to strike there so he put the rod there? Or did he put the rod there because Claire wouldn’t move and the lightning would’ve hit their tent? Because, to me it just seemed like it was raining inside the tent, and that could’ve been the reason why Desmond suggested to Claire to move. But, we now know that Desmond has some weird kind of ability that allows him to see/predict/understand the future. I wonder what kind of storyline this ability is going to go along with. And why Desmond?

On the other side of the island…err…scratch that…on the OTHER ISLAND. That’s right, we found out last night that there isn’t just one island, but apparently wherever Jack, Kate, and Sawyer are is a completely separate island.

Here’s an interesting tidbit that I’ll have to re-watch the episode to make sure. But, when The Other’s were bringing back Colleen because Ben appeared to say that a "sub" had arrived ("sub" as in "submarine"), that would explain how they are able go from one island to the next.

The back story was about Sawyer and how he was in prison. He gained the confidence of a inmate who supposedly had 10 million dollars of government money hidden away somewhere. Sawyer, cut a deal with the warden and FBI that he would find where the money was, which he did. I have a hard time believing they would release a person from jail AND give him a cut of the money, but hey it’s TV.

Most of the show was dedicated to Ben conning Sawyer, by telling him he’d inserted a pacemaker in his heart that would cause it to explode. Did anyone get the reference of that? J.J. Abrams made Mission Impossible 3 in which the same thing happens to Ethan Hunt, sort of the same thing I guess. But, come to find out there’s no pacemaker at all. But, Sawyer didn’t find that out until he was completely emasculated in front of Kate. Taking that beating from that crazy Danny fellow. Then that’s when Ben showed Sawyer the original island.

Ok I’m going to go off here a little bit, and say, I’m thinking that the whole other island thing is a total con also. Remember very first episode of this season we see the plane going down on the island right? All The Others come out of their little commune houses and Ben tells Ethan and Goodwin to run to the beaches where they crashed. Are we to believe that all The Others have just left that crazy compound place and gone over to the other island? I guess we’ll all find that out soon enough. (On sort of a bad note: I’m really kind of disappointed if there REALLY is another island. To tell me that no one has seen this other island is really kinda dumb. Sayid sailing and exploring almost the whole island, and not seeing that other island, is crazy. But, we’ll see.

Did I miss anything? OH! Jack is called into help the Colleen that got shot, and sees some x-rays of someone who has a tumor on their spine. He puts two and two together and figures he’s there to operate on one of The Others (my guess is Ben). The Others really make me mad though. They have no sympathy or compassion towards anyone, but if something happens to one of them they go completely bonkers. What’s wrong with them?

Here’s looking to next week.
(Sorry no pictures yet. They will be up soon promise. Just haven't had time.)

Lost:"Further Instrctions"

Lost: “Further Instructions”

I’ve mentioned before that Locke is my favorite character by far on Lost. Whenever there’s a Locke-centric episode I become filled with “giddy-school-boy-joy.” Last night’s episode definitely didn’t disappoint us Locke fans out there.

Locke’s had some trouble of late. At the end of season 2 he was quite sure that silly little button didn’t do a dang thing, and was hell-bent on not letting anyone push it. But, it all was true, very, very true. Then we had all that white-purple sky and poof, we didn’t see Locke, Desmond, or Eko until this episode.

John Locke Lost
Creepy Eye
The episode opened up on Locke’s eye. Man a lot of these eye openings. I think every episode should open on someone’s eye, but then people would just get upset that they weren’t getting any answers about that too. Locke’s laying in the jungle, blood on his head, but apparently not too banged up. He sees a glimpse of Desmond running through the forest and tries to talk, but he can’t.
John Locke Lost
Hatch Implosions Hurt
He’s a mute. Poor Locke can’t talk at this specific moment. He finds his way back to camp and finds Charlie. He tells Charlie to stand guard as he builds a little hut, like a mini-sauna, where Eko was building his church. Locke makes some of that weird paste he put on Boone’s head in season 1 to make him hallucinate about Shannon (remember that?), and he starts eating it. Whatever that stuff is I bet every druggie on the planet would want some because man does that stuff work fast. Because there’s…Boone sitting right next to him. Talking to him. Cue the dream sequence:
John Locke Lost
It's kinda cold in here

I’m going to spend a bit of time talking about this sequence, and a lot of the pictures go with it also, because I think it was just an amazing scene.
Now they’re in Sydney airport and Boone is pushing Locke in his wheelchair, and for some reason Locke isn’t wearing his shirt. Boone keeps telling Locke
Dominic Monaghan Lost
Charlie and Claire
that he needs to help someone here. Locke is trying to figure out who. He points to Claire and Charlie standing in a ticket line. Boone: “They’ll be alright, for now.” Next he sees Sun, Jin and Sayid. Boone: “I think Sayid’s got

it.” Then Locke sees Hurley. Boone: “Not Hurley.” Locke sees Desmond
Desmond Lost
Desmond
coming down the stairs dressed as a pilot. Boone: “Not him, he’s helping himself.” Locke then spots Kate and Sawyer who look quite happy together standing together
Evangeline Lilly Lost
Kate and Sawyer
to go through the metal detector, at the front of the line is Jack, who’s getting the once over with the magic wand by Ben. Boone: “There’s nothing you can do for them yet. Not yet. First you have to clean up your own mess.”
Matthew Sheperd Lost
Jack and Ben
I’m going to interject here and just say that all these representations of the other castaways were right on the money. I loved it. Cue the giant foreboding escalator. John gets on to it and goes up on his stomach. Then at the top his
Lost Further Instructions
Eko's Stick
hand is covered in blood and there’s Eko’s scripture stick, possible meaning that Eko’s blood will be on John’s hands lest he does something. Then there’s Boone all bloody like we’re used to seeing him. He tells John he needs to go get Eko. John wakes up and there’s a huge polar bear. GRRRRRR!
Polar Bear Lost
Polar Bear GRRR!

So, a big part of this episode was John’s backstory where apparently at one point John joined some sort of commune of hippies. Who appeared to be farmers, but oh no they were growing the weed. John picked up a hitchhiker named Eddie and Eddie found a home at the commune. Come to find out Eddie had pulled a fast one, he was a cop staking out the joint. John took Eddie into the forest threatened to kill him, but then he didn’t. My take on this, is this isn’t the last we’ve seen of this backstory. If anything I’m betting that later on in another Locke episode this story continues on, and we find out why Locke was paralyzed.

Desmond Naked Lost
Desmond goning commando
Meanwhile Hurley finds a naked Desmond in the jungle. Hurley: “Dude the Hatch like blew off your underware.” Hurley gives Desmond a Hurley-sized tie-die T-shirt. Desmond says something weird. He says Locke is going to go save Kate, Sawyer, and Jack. He said so in his big speech. Hurley has no idea what he’s talking about. Desmond plays it off and they go back to the beach.

Locke finds Eko in a cave. With a weird Tonka toy dump-truck and a bunch of bones with dharma symbols on them.
Dharma Symbol Pearl Lost
Freaky Symbols
WEIRD! Locke uses some hairspray and a torch to make a flamethrower and burns the bear right on the shnoze! OUCH!
So, then everyone’s safe. They bring Eko out, of the cave set him down to get some water for him Charlie leaves, and Eko wakes up and tells John he needs to go save Jack, Kate, and Sawyer because he’s a hunter. But, turns out when Charlie returns that Eko really wasn’t awake. Maybe that crazy paste hadn’t worn off yet.

Locke gets back to the beach and announces that he’s going to go save their friends that have been captured. Hurley has a freaky bit of Déjà vu. Noticing that the speech Locke is giving is the speech Desmond was talking about. The episode ends with Desmonds face in a close up.

So apparently Desmond can see the future, or something. That’s going to be pretty dang cool. I loved this episode. I could watch Locke dreams all day.
What’s everyone else’s feelings?
Desmond Lost
Desmond=Seer? Hmmm...

To cap off this lengthy picture filled review I'd like to add another picture. The coolest picture of the whole show. I thought this shot was just fascinating.

Lost: "The Glass Ballerina"

October 12th 2006 19:41
LOST
“The Glass Ballerina”
I love the intricacies of the Jin/Sun stories. Sun has a lot deeper personality
Lost glass ballerina
Sun's enterance into deception.
that is being developed than what we’ve known. The show started out showing Sun as a little girl. After a glass ballerina crashes to the floor Sun’s father asks her if she did it. She lies and says the maid did it. Kind of a foreshadowing event that Sun isn’t ever truthful with anyone. The title “The Glass Ballerina,” is a metaphor of Sun’s life. Ever since she was a kid she’s been a liar. Interesting. I had an “Ah-ha” moment during this episode (I love those), well, I guess it was more like a “I knew it,” moment, but oh well. Sun did cheat on Jin. I knew it. I guess we didn’t actually see them doing the hibbity-dibbity, and she did get out of the bed saying “I can’t do this,” but I think she did it. That baby isn’t Jin’s baby I’m calling it right now.
Sayid Jin Sun Lost
Sayid lies his little pants off.
We have Sayid, Jin, and Sun out on Desmond’s sailboat trying to find Jack, Kate and Sawyer. Only they never show up. Sayid comes up with a plan to sail around to another place so Jack can have better view of the signal fire. They find the dock where Jack, Kate, and Sawyer were tied up at the end of last season. At first I was really surprised, and almost pissed at the comments Sayid made about the dock: “It’s overgrown, hasn’t been used in months.” I was thinking, are you serious man? That dock looks brand spanking new! You were in the army, how in the world can you think that dock is never used.
Thank goodness we found out he was lying about all that because he needed the help of Jin to set a trap for The Others when they came to look at what the signal fire was. I admit though that the trap that Sayid sets is very ill conceived, but we’ll get to that later.
Elsewhere on the island, The Others are making Sawyer and Kate do manual labor, for no apparent reason, breaking up rocks, using a wheelbarrow to load them up, and the rolling them about 20 yards away and dumping them. The
Kate Sawyer Lost Evangiline Lilly
Kate slaves away in her dress...get that bug out of there!
Others are sick! Kate is still wearing her dress, man that’s got to be really uncomfortable working in that thing. Also, sleeping in that cage at night on the ground…makes you think Kate is getting bugs in places you don’t want bugs.
Kate Sawyer Kiss Lost
He finally did it...Whoopie!
During the laborious working Sawyer finally gets the “cojones” to walk up and kiss Kate. At first I thought this scene was a tad bit on the cheesy side, but come to find out Sawyer was doing it so he could find out what kinda fight The Others had in them. Are they just pretending? Or do they know how to really handle those guns? Sadly though, Ben Linus (Faux-Henry) was watching on his nifty little TV screens hearing Sawyer talking to Kate about taking them.
Back to the boat. Sawyer and Jin are sitting in a tree…k-i-s-s-i-n…whoops, sorry. They’re both waiting for those stinkin’ Others to show their faces. Sayid’s plan: Capture 2, kill the rest. Sounds like a good plan to me. I’ve really been waiting for someone to kill someone in this show. Sounds morbid I know, but there’s always these points where a person has a chance just to pop a cap in an Other and sadly the relent. Surprisingly no one shows up. This is what I’m talking about ill conceived. Why in the world didn’t Sayid think they’d come in by water? Which they did. Sun came face to face with one of them…and…hooray…Sun shot her right in the gut. Way to go! She couldn’t be talked down, or manipulated. She gave her one to suck on. That was great. I shot my fist in the air when that happened.
Then came the ending. Ben is in with Jack. Jack appears lethargic and mentally beat. Ben then makes him “an offer he can’t refuse,” by telling them that they have contact with the outside world. They know everything that’s going on. Ben (this was quite corny) shows Jack the Red Sox’s winning the world series on a TV screen. Although after I got to thinking about the first season…If you remember the conversation Jack's dad had with Sawyer in the bar, he said "the Red Sox will never win the World Series". Then when Jack repeated it to Sawyer, Sawyer realized that was Jack's father. Ben then tells
Jack Red Sox World Series Lost
The "Babe's
Jack he can send him home if Jack does him a favor. Personally I don’t think Jack will betray anyone, but it would be freaking out of left field if he ended up doing just that. Everyone, always remember that it was always the plan the Jack’s character was actually going to be killed off in the second episode of the series. So, well…he’s expendable.
Next week we find out what happened to Locke, Eko, and Desmond. I’m really, truly excited to see Locke back on his game. You know he’s going to come with a vengeance after finding out the button was actually real. He’s going to be the old Locke we know and love, hopefully he kicks some Other’s ass!
