The 9'er: Top 9 TV Tough Guys

Category: The 9'er
The 9’er is a new feature I’m going to do. It’s basically a top 10 list, but with only 9, because 10 is just way to cliché.
So, without further ado here’s the first addition of The 9’er.
9. Matthew Albie (Matthew Perry)
In Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Matthew Perry plays hard-nosed writer Matthew Albie. With a quick wit and an even quicker and nastier temper, Albie isn’t so much tough as in killing people but rather belittling them until they feel insignificant. His biting remarks, sometimes even make me cringe.
8. Jordan Collier (Bill Campbell)
Jordan Collier of The 4400 is a TV tough guy in his own right. Having been resurrected from the dead to spread the “gospel” of the future, Jordan has earned his right to be on this list. He even faced down the dreaded Isabelle. That’s right he’s been reborn, he’s still extremely rich, and he’s tougher than ever!
7. Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard)
Before meeting his demise last season of 24 from the hands of Christopher Henderson, Tony Almeida was one tough cookie. With his constant scowl he let everyone know that he was continually in deep agonizing thought on how to save the country. It was either that or he was extremely constipated. Which ever one it was it doesn’t matter, because the fact is that Tony at one point was shot in the neck and was back at work in a few hours. Now that’s tough.
6. Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller)
The master mind behind the Fox River 8 escape, in Prison Break. Michael Scofield doesn’t so much use his brawn to win battles rather it’s his exceeding intellect that gives him the edge. Michael also survived being in prison, and getting some toes cut off with a pair of tree clippers. That would make anyone want to give up. But, not Michael, right now him and his escaped posse are in Tooele, Utah digging for D.B. Cooper’s hidden money.
5. Mr. Eko (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje)
Drug dealer turned priest turned island holy man is our next tough guy on the list. Mr. Eko is afraid of nothing. And judging by his rippling muscles and formidable stare I sure wouldn’t want to meet him in a dark alley. Also, with all that pent up grief for getting his brother killed Mr. Eko could go postal at anytime. He also carries a skull-bashing stick with scriptures carved into it. That’s just freaky.
4. Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis)
I’ve never really followed The Shield, but the episodes I’ve seen, that Vic Mackey is one loose cannon. He doesn’t take any guff from anyone. He breaks the law, but at the same time upholds it. It’s his way or the highway. He even went all the way to Mexico to solve a crime, now if that isn’t determination I don’t know what is.
3. John Locke (Terry O’Quinn)
Formerly paralyzed, but can now miraculously walk, John Locke comes in at number three. A born hunter, tracker, and baby crib maker John is a man of many skills. He’s come face to face with the Island’s monster and lived to tell the tale, which he still hasn’t. He’s also every druggies dream. He can make a hallucinogen out of rainforest paste which lets you talk to the island and find your “destiny.” After having been blown up in the hatch, Locke is now ready to face the world, kill some Others, and all-in-all kick some serious butt.
2. Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini)
He’s Italian and proud of it. Do not cross him or you’ll be found in a dumpster in the middle of New Jersey. With a handful of mafia cronies at his beckoned call he can have you whacked before you could say “Mozerelle.” Money, power, and a very bad temper make Tony Soprano a force to be reckoned with in the TV tough guy area.
1. Jack Bauer (Kierfer Sutherland)
Number one comes as no surprise. Jack Bauer has been through more stuff than all eight of the aforementioned tough guys put together. Jack saves the world one day at a time literally. He has no family, his friends turn on him, yet he has a patriotic duty to save our country from an onslaught of brilliant terrorists. He’s actually been dead twice! But, not even death can stop Jack Bauer. No! The gravitas in his voice alone, is enough to scare off a pack of wolves.
There you have it, the first official 9’er feature column. Feel free to agree or disagree with my statements here. But if you disagree I’ll have Tony Soprano sit on you.

Good god man where is Al Sweargen (Ian McShane) in Deadwood?
or
Edward James Olmos as Commander Adama on Battlestar Galactica?
Shame Oz finished its run cause their were some real bad mofos behind those walls.
These guys eat pussies like Jack Bauer for Breakfast. I wont even talk about Matthew Perry being defined as tough.
Nice to see the Shield get a mention even though I think the Wire is way tougher.

But bad dudes aren't always blokes. There are some seriously bad chicks out there in TV land as well.
Karen's Top 9:
Tanya (Zöe Lucker) from Footballers Wives
Shell Dockley (Debra Stephenson) from Bad Girls
Faith (Eliza Dushku) from Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Tessa Phillips (Jenny Agutter) from Spooks
Jasmine (Gina Torres) from Angel
Anna Espinosa (Gina Torres again) from Alias.
Lauren Reed (Melissa George) again from Alias
Nina Myers (Sarah Clarke) from 24
And I'm going to get a bit controversial and say Willow (Alyson Hannigan) from Buffy series Six. My least favourite of all the Buffy series, but man did Willow go psycho.
